This little online auction find was just what my little corner needed. The laminate had started peeling and bubbling but the size was good and the $30.00 price tag was even better. I had an old Plastic gold shelf I had gotten at Goodwill months ago..just been waiting on the perfect sized table to use it with. This fit perfectly on top. I believe I paid $8.00 for it.
I started out by taking the back off and oh fun the rat poo was a real treat..this baby had a cubby in the back and got a good scrubbing, lysol, and then some bleach spray. Removed all the hardware and sanded the rough edges and bubbles down. Wanted it to be flat as possible.
I used some oops paint + primer Low Odor with no VOC unsanded grout and Organic Clay, the flatter the paint the better for me. My measurements are hazy because I’m always adding more and forgetting to write it down. Always dissolve the mix in a small amount of warm water first. It really helps to mix really really well and let sit over night too. The color says it is Mark Twain Gray Brick. I really like it. The back and drawer was done in another oops paint in a creamy yellow. 2 coats of each. Then my wax and we where ready to go. Added some hardware and got it moved in. Very Very quick project. One thing about rolltop desk are the actual roll top. Taking off the back is key to paint the whole thing. I will eventually add a back to the whole desk to the floor for support. It isn’t the sturdiest piece of furniture.
