This will be the happiest post I’ve done in a long time. First our house is coming together. We have had hiccups all along the way. From the stove not fitting in the granite cutout to the floor tile having spots in it..and not noticing until after it was laid. But Every thing that has made me want to cry has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Yeap I said it, since Feb. 26th my sanity, and faith has been tested. Sadly my marriage too. I know those who know me can’t believe that I would be hard to get along with
. I can be a real Diva and a real Biatch at times. :) My life has been tossed upside down and after crying myself to sleep one night I decided that I either needed to go with the flow and learn from it or cry, stress and do damage to my marriage. I put on my big girl panties and decided to let God do his work and trust that he knows way better than I do. If anyone knows what I need it would be him. So now I will get to the point..and the point is PAINT!
I have had so many request for black and I wanted black in my home too. This led me on a journey to find an alternative to Annie Sloan. Well that bumpy road started with me making my own paint which works great for some projects but the mess and the consistency was more trouble than it was worth. So by accident the road took me to “My Old Front Porch” . Wow great paint colors, but inconstant paint! I’ll be reviewing that paint later so DON’T go out and buy it with out reading the ins and outs of it.
So lets start with my new tv console. I needed something to fit on a 57″ wall. We have a very open floor plan now and very limited space. I wanted the TV to be seen while in the kitchen and living room area so this was the only wall that worked. I found this Dresser at Goodwill with a rough finish but good bones. Tall and not as wide as most dressers so I was ready to go. I paid $29.99 for it, that is about $15.00 more than I would normally pay but when you find something that works you just have to go with it.
Before
Hubby Measured the inside bottom and sides to frame it in like this below..I don’t saw things..I’m clumsy and dangerous. We have rules around here ya know
Some dressers are framed in like this those are ideal for tv consoles.
Get it as tight as you can so you don’t have to caulk gaps.
Drill holes in the back for cords..we did three so the xbox and cable box had places for plugs, av jacks, and my kinect
Finished product before paint..looking good.
Painted one coat of midnight black, and had to sand the whole thing because of the grit. She said that was an isolated incident and come to find out later…that really wasn’t the case. Any who painted the second coat and lightly sanded to smooth and then distressed slightly. The only wax I used on this was Howard Feed N Wax. Then I used some 1.99 wallpaper from goodwill with Mod Podge in the cabinet. It would have been fine painted but I’ve been dying to use this paper
Are you feeling the need to create…get to it. Don’t doubt yourself!

Great! Excited about new paint find… messaged about ordering. Where do you find the wax??
Jean, I found the wax at Home Depot. I haven’t tested it to see see how long it will last. I will keep you posted on how it holds up to time and abuse
Lovely! Great job! I’m interested in the paint, also! Do you carry it at your store?
Juanita, I’m in the process of putting it at my booth in Springfield. Will be in the first week of August. Are you local? If not I can ship it to you. Just email me at shannon@shab2fab.com
